RECORD GRADING

Clear descriptions. No surprises.

Condition is one of the most important parts of buying pre-owned vinyl. We describe the record and sleeve separately wherever appropriate.

Our grading is based on the widely used Goldmine grading system, adapted to provide clear, practical descriptions for the records we sell. We also use EX — Excellent as an additional intermediate grade between Near Mint and Very Good Plus.

NM — Near Mint

Exceptional condition with very little evidence of handling or use. Vinyl should show virtually no signs of wear and play exceptionally cleanly.

EX — Excellent

A very well cared-for copy showing only minimal signs of previous use. The vinyl may have a small number of very light surface marks, with playback expected to remain particularly clean.

VG+ — Very Good Plus

A well cared-for copy with light signs of previous use. The vinyl may show minor surface marks, but these should have little effect on playback.

VG — Very Good

Noticeable signs of previous use. Surface marks and some audible background noise may be present, but the record should remain an enjoyable listening copy without major playback problems unless specifically stated.

G+ / G — Good Plus / Good

Obvious signs of wear and use. Surface noise, marks and other imperfections are likely to be noticeable. Any significant defects or playback issues will be clearly stated in the individual listing.

HOW WE GRADE

Records are visually inspected under suitable lighting, with the vinyl and sleeve graded separately. Where a record has been play-tested, this is clearly stated in the individual listing.

Photographs form part of every condition description, and any notable faults we identify are shown or described wherever possible. We would rather grade conservatively than leave a buyer disappointed.
